Last Thursday, some Gemvarians had the privilege of volunteering for the organization MSPCC (The Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children) at their annual Kid’s Day BBQ. Kid’s Day is a therapeutic program in Jamaica Plain that provides a safe place for at-risk children to learn and play after school and during the summer. The BBQ is an activity that the children and staff look forward to all summer, so naturally the Gemvarians were very excited to be a part of it.
Unfortunately, due to the weather, the BBQ was moved indoors this year. Yet, despite the minor setback, the Gemvara crew had a lot of fun with the kids playing games, eating pizza and helping them create some short skits. The performances were pretty funny, to say the least.
We are proud that Gemvara could help the kids enjoy a safe, fun and imaginative day. We hope to continue to work with MSPCC at future events and are very thankful to have met so many wonderful people.
